Geshe Dhonam for a Special Teaching on Meditation and its Practices

Geshe Dhonam is a resident teacher and spiritual director in New Zealand at Trashi Gomang Buddhist Centre Auckland and its sister organization Centre Trashi Ge Phel Ling Wellington. https://www.trashigomangnz.com 

Geshe Dhonam became monk at Drepung Gomang Monastery in South India in 1970 when he was 13 years old. Geshe la studied for more than 22 years at the monastery and attained the monastery’s highest qualification of Geshe Lharampa (PhD) in 1992. Immediately after the exams, the monastery sent him to monastery’s center in Buryatia, Russia, where he stayed as resident teacher for eight years. After finishing his term, he returned to Drepung Gomang Monastery to teach. He was later sent to Trashi Gomang Center in New Zealand.

Geshe la is also the founder and leader of “The Compassion Trust” (https://www.nyingjitrust.com). This organization was established to assist and raise funds for those in need in Mundgod, India, and associated Tibetan refugee settlements where Drepung Gomang Monastery is located. Among its activities, the organization partners with AFFaction (Animal Five Freedoms Action India) in a sterilization and vaccination program for stray dogs, assisting with resources for the hospital, and supporting disadvantaged families with food, clothing and other resources.
