DGCEC welcomes to Louisville

Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo, Author and Artist

THREADS OF AWAKENING: An American Woman’s Journey into Tibet’s Sacred Textile Art

Wednesday, November 16, 5:00 – 6:30pm, In-Person with Masks

One of the few non-Tibetans to master the Buddhist art of applique thangka, Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo stiches bits of silk into elaborate artworks that bring the transformative images of Buddhist meditation to life.

DGCEC is delighted to welcome Leslie to Louisville. In this free presentation she will share personal stories of how she learned to make silk appliqué thangkas among the Tibetan community in Dharamsala, India, and will display two thangkas she created - White Tara and Chenrezig.

Join us as this acclaimed artist shares more about the creation and meaning of these thangkas, how they can inspire us, as well as what sets this unique thangka tradition apart.  View pieces of work-in-progress to understand more clearly how these images are carefully put together.  Learn more about what inspired Leslie to write this book, then share questions and conversation.

This free special event is underwritten by a grant, but donations are welcome.  Threads of Awakening will be available for purchase as well.

PLEASE register at DrepungGomangUSA.org or call 502-614-5616 so we can prepare for your presence!  Masks required inside the center.

Leslie Rinchen-Wongmo’s work has been featured in Spirituality & Health and Fiber Art Now and in the documentary, Creating Buddha: The Making and Meaning of Fabric Thangkas.  Her new book features a foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
