Practices of Mahatma Gandhi with Johnny Alse and Cory Lockhart

Wednesday, September 27, 12 – 12:45pm, via Zoom and Facebook LIVE

Join us for a conversation between local nonviolence educator, Cory Lockhart, and Johnny Alse to learn more about how to apply the wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi and his Truth-Force (Satyagraha), nonviolence in thoughts, words and the actions of our lives.

Mahatma Gandhi: As a pioneer of Satyagraha, or resistance through mass non-violent civil disobedience, Gandhiji, as he is reverently known, became one of the major political and spiritual leaders of his time. Satyagraha remains one of the most potent philosophies in freedom struggles throughout the world today.

Even after his death in 1948, Gandhi's commitment to nonviolence and his belief in simple living – making his own clothes, eating a vegetarian diet, and using fasts for self-purification as well as a means of protest – have been a beacon of hope for oppressed and marginalized people throughout the world.  His articulation of the principal of Satyagraha has guided renowned civil rights leaders including Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela.

The United Nations General Assembly named October 2nd, Gandhiji’s birthday, International Day of Nonviolence in 2007 – and thousands of actions mark the day around the world.
