His Eminence Khen Rinpoche Geshe Jigme Gyatso, Abbot of Drepung Gomang Monastery in India, will give a teaching Lama Tsongkhapa’s short composition, Songs of Spiritual Experience, a text which offers powerful encouragement to make the most of our lives. Renouncing the mistaken, temporary pleasures of this life is the first step to paving the way to spiritual realizations that arise from transforming our minds and that lead to ultimate happiness. Songs of Spiritual Experience, part of the lam rim tradition, offers a guided roadmap to Enlightenment that all can follow at one’s own pace.

Teaching Schedule: Saturday, 1 - 3pm and Sunday, 10am - Noon and 1 - 3pm

His Eminence Khen Rinpoche Geshe Jigme Gyatso was born in Amdo, Tibet in 1965 and joined Labrang Tashi Kyil Monastery in 1984. After coming to India he joined Drepung Gomang Monastic College in India in 1990 where he studied under H.E. late Khensur Geshe Yonten Dhamchoe. In 1993, he received his full ordination from His Holiness the Dalai Lama. From 1992, he has been providing teachings to the monk students and was formally appointed as text teacher of the Monastery in 1995. Khen Rinpoche was conferred with Geshe Lharampa title (Doctorate of Buddhist Philosophy) in 2005. Up until 2020, he served as the text teacher for 15 reincarnated Lamas (tulkus) and, since 2020, he has served as Lama Shunglenba (Monastic education supervisor) of the Monastery. Geshe Lharampa Jigme Gyatso was appointed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as the 81st Abbot/His Eminence Khen Rinpoche of Drepung Gomang Monastery on 6 November 2021 and took charge of the Monastery on 17 December 2021 after the enthronement ceremony.

Interpreted by Tenzin Namgyal (Tenam) who has served as DGCEC’s dharma translator since 2013. He studied Buddhist philosophy at Tibetan University, Varanasi, India before moving to the US where he received a second BA in ‘International Human Rights Law’ from Hampshire College, MA. Tenam is a professional interpreter, translating Buddhist teachings from Tibetan into English and vice versa for 25 years, including interpreting for renowned teachers of many traditions.
