Tuesday, June 23, 5:30pm, In-Person or via Zoom

Robert Thurman (August 3, 1941 to June 16, 2026) was a prominent American Buddhist scholar, friend of Tibetans, co-founder of Tibet House US and its Menla Retreat in New York, translator, and prolific author of 23 books. When in his early 20s Bob (as he was known) had the incredible opportunity to become a student of His Holiness the Dalai Lama (who was only six years older) in Dharamsala. He became the first American to be ordained a Tibetan Buddhist Monk - by His Holiness. This ongoing friendship with His Holiness shaped his life. Bob was widely considered the most influential American-born Tibetan Buddhists. His scholarship and energetic teaching style inspired followers of the Buddhist path and the lives of countless others as well.
